At a recent timber and damp survey in Glasgow we came across this infestation of woodworm affecting the timber backboard holding the electricity meter. There was no evidence of woodworm to any of the surrounding floor or cupboard timbers. The reason for this is the plywood used to make the backboard is laminated together with horse glue which is nutrient rich for woodworm.
In this instance we recommend that the utility supplier be contacted to replace the backboard and adjacent timbers monitored for signs of any infestation during the upcoming flight seasons (late spring/early summer).
