We were recently asked to inspect the ground floor of a property for woodworm infestation.
We discovered a severe infestation of Common Furniture Beetle was affecting floorboards in the Kitchen with more moderate to slight infestation to joists below and to adjacent rooms. It would appear that the timber used for floorboards was much more nutritious to the insects which were happy to chomp away before moving on the less nutritious joist timber.
We specified treatment to kitchen joists and remaining floor areas with replacemnt of floorboards only to the kitchen area.
Common furniture beetle (Anobium punctatum) is a small, wood-boring insect that damages timber structures. Active in warm months, its larvae burrow into wood, creating tiny exit holes. Infestations weaken wood, often requiring treatment with insecticides and, in some cases, timber replacement.
